"Unearthed" ist eine umfangreiche Box-Set-Veröffentlichung von Johnny Cash, die 2003 posthum veröffentlicht wurde. Sie besteht aus fünf CDs und einem Booklet, das Einblicke in das Leben und die Karriere von Cash bietet. Die Sammlung enthält eine Vielzahl von Aufnahmen, die während seiner Zusammenarbeit mit dem Produzenten Rick Rubin entstanden sind, insbesondere in den 1990er Jahren, als Cash eine kreative Wiedergeburt erlebte.

Die ersten drei CDs enthalten bisher unveröffentlichte Tracks und alternative Versionen von Songs, die während der "American Recordings"-Sessions aufgenommen wurden. Die vierte CD, "My Mother's Hymn Book", ist eine Sammlung von traditionellen Gospel- und Kirchenliedern, die Cash besonders am Herzen lagen. Die fünfte CD, "Best of Cash on American", bietet eine Auswahl der besten Tracks aus den ersten vier "American Recordings"-Alben.

Johnny Cash, bekannt als "The Man in Black", war eine der einflussreichsten Figuren in der Musikgeschichte. Seine Karriere erstreckte sich über fast fünf Jahrzehnte, in denen er zahlreiche Hits in den Genres Country, Rock, Blues und Gospel hatte. Cash war bekannt für seine tiefe, markante Stimme und seine Fähigkeit, Geschichten durch seine Musik zu erzählen. Seine Zusammenarbeit mit Rick Rubin in den 1990er Jahren führte zu einer neuen Generation von Fans und einer Wiederbelebung seiner Karriere, die ihm bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 2003 anhaltende Anerkennung einbrachte.
