Fetish were formed in Cape Town in 1997 and developed a distinctive sound
combining alternative rock, electronic music and trip-hop.
At the centre of the music is the expressive voice of
Michelle Breeze, bringing strength, vulnerability and a
mysterious atmosphere to the songs.

With So Many Prophets, the South African band released its second
album in 1999 and created one of its most defining works.
Dense guitars, electronic textures and striking rhythms come together to
form a varied and remarkably timeless musical landscape.

Songs such as Permanent, If and Ground Below
demonstrate how naturally Fetish move between memorable melodies and
darker moments of tension.
The title track So Many Prophets reached number one on the charts
of the South African radio station 5FM, while Permanent also
entered the top ten.

Despite this success, the band remained largely unknown outside South Africa
and later almost faded into obscurity.
So Many Prophets is therefore an exciting rediscovery for anyone
who appreciates distinctive alternative rock with electronic and
atmospheric influences.

The Name of the Rose (with Sean Connery)
Film of the Month October

The Name of the Rose (with Sean Connery)

A remote monastery, mysterious deaths and a library full of secrets: Franciscan friar William of Baskerville begins to investigate and is drawn ever deeper into a dangerous web of faith, power and forbidden writings. Sean Connery shines in this atmospheric medieval mystery based on Umberto Eco’s celebrated novel.

In 1327, Franciscan friar William of Baskerville travels with his young novice Adso to a remote Benedictine monastery in northern Italy. They are supposed to attend a theological meeting, but a series of mysterious deaths casts a dark shadow over the gathering. With his sharp intellect and remarkable powers of observation, William begins to investigate and uncovers a web of fear, power and closely guarded secrets. At the heart of the mystery lies the monastery’s vast library, whose hidden rooms are by no means accessible to everyone. Sean Connery portrays William with calm authority, intelligence and dry humour, while Christian Slater, as the young Adso, discovers the increasingly threatening world of the monastery. Jean-Jacques Annaud’s adaptation of Umberto Eco’s bestseller combines historical crime, mystery and philosophical drama into an exceptionally atmospheric story. Its dark imagery, impressive monastery setting and characters such as the sinister inquisitor Bernardo Gui make the film unmistakable even decades later. The Name of the Rose is one of those literary adaptations that has developed a cinematic life entirely of its own – gripping, intelligent and wonderfully dark.
